Confirming features

Post by qofmiwok »

All my searches turned up old posts so I wanted to post this to make sure I am understanding correctly. I have 1 need, to have a way to search inside my files (mostly ocr'd pdf's) and preview the files (mostly pdf's) in a size that I can see on my very high res display. Extra Large Icons is still unreadable. So...
1. Is there still no way to increase the thumbnail size?
2. Is there still no built-in preview of pdf's? I'd have to buy something separate that integrates with Explorer++?
3. What about search? Can you search inside pdf's?

Thanks

1 & 2 I can't help you with.

3. I use a set of tools for this.

If my pdfs are properly OCR'd or made from text, then I use http://www.ztree.com/ text search to narrow the field.
Otherwise depending on the files, I use an older free foxit reader, or https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/free-pdf-reader.html, both of which offer page preview for fast visual scanning.
Be sure to set your page view to continuous in foxit after opening a pdf, it like to ignore user preferences.
Stay away from the newer foxit as well since it uses that stupid ribbon interface.

What I fail to understand is limitations on preview capability.

It previews images and video files then why can't it preview simple text and pdf files? I would switch completely to Everything from Voidtools if it added file manager functions to its fantastic search engine. Its preview capability is excellent. The best part is it depends and picks its prompts and "viewers" from the registry.
