I would specifically use this for the imageres.dll file that contains all of windows 7's default icons.

This is a bit beyond scope of a file management utility like Explorer++
Check out Mitec IconExplorer 4.2

It's portable and free (that I know of)
The only catch it that it will save Icons in separate resolutions (e.g. 48x48pixels) and not as a collection of different sizes of the same Icon.
You might be able to piece it back together with IconLover (30 time-bomb)
