Changing the default "Copy of" behavior.

Post by Janus »

Unable to live with the lack of 'ext' in 7's explorer, I rebelled.
8 and later are not windows, they are an appliance interface, not an OS UI.
I am currently using a tweaked version of the 1.3.5 release.
I added a network sync fix I found elsewhere on the forum.
VS2010 compiled, and the directions to compile hard for someone like me to follow.
I am not a C/C++ programmer, and VS is confusing.
Took me days to get boost, pantheion and stlsoft working.

Now I am looking at altering/intercepting of file copies in the same directory.

Under XP, by far my preferred UI, it prepends "Copy of" to the filename.
Under 7, A UI nearly unusable by me, it appends "- Copy" to the end.

Disgustingly, I am being forced to move toward 7, at least until Reactos goes beta, then its goodbye redmond & M$.
In 7, M$ removed most of the things I use to navigate and keep track of things.
I know I am a little weird, but I actually use the tree on the left in explorer, and the one in 7 is a sick joke.
The control panel appears to have been designed by a *()&^$ (*&%^ #%$^ person with no regard for aesthetics or work flow.
Trying to not to use bad language on the forum, but who ever designed the control panel in 7 is ^&%$#$.
That is another problem though.

Today's grousing is about the rename on collision disaster they created.
I actually use the prepend to the name and drop it at the bottom of the list, it is part of how I organize.

Does anyone know how to intercept the same directory collision renaming function?
I want to hard code for my own use, or add an option have a customizable prepend/append string.
What makes 7 almost unusable for me is they took away my way of doing things, and I want some of them back.
I know some will prefer the other way, and they are welcome to use what works for them.
Just because it works for me, doesn't mean it works for anyone else.

Hoping someone knows more than I do.

Janus.
