Distinguish JUNCTION and SYMLINK{D} in Properties

Post by jamesdavidhoward »

Currently, both Explorer and Explorer++ (1.3.5.531) do not distinguish JUNCTIONs vs. SYMLINKs in icon display or in the [Properties] pop-up panel. It can be important to distinguish between the 2, esp. now that WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) is widely available. The default behaviour is categorizing - and showing them - with a generic "Shortcut" property panel and with the icon having an overlay of a blue swoop arrow at the lower left, pointing toward the upper right:

  • Visually, an alternate representation in Explorer++ would be quite helpful - an arrow of another color, or another shape/direction.
    • Note: in Linux file explorers/browsers, a common representation is an arrow overlay at the bottom right of an icon, pointing to the right and downwards, and usually gray in color
  • In the property panel, a mention of the type of the "Shortcut" - JUNCTION, SYMLINKD or SYMLINK
