E++ crash's when right-clicking in white space

Post by billw »

Hello,

First, I have to thank David for such an excellent program.

I'm currently running E++ on several PC's at work and home running Win7 32/64-bit and XP 32-bit, most without too many issues. In the XP PC running "Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_qfe.130704-0421)", whenever I right-click on white space (where no file text is seen), E++ crash's. I tried to attach the XP crash report for your reference, but the forum wasn't buying it, so I included it below in a code box.

Code: Select all

I tried several previous versions of E++, including the latest 1.3.5.531 32-bit version. Note that this doen't happen on my Win7 PC, only on the XP.

Again, this crash only happens right-clicking in the white space areas, not when hovering over a filename. Obviously the right-click menu's are different between the two.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

P.S. Rather than creating another thread, I also have a periodic problem with the 64-bit version closing tabs when clicked on on my home Win7-64 PC. I have multiple physical drives (internal, NAS, and networked PC's), and multiple drives allocated on individul physical drives. This doesn't happen too often, just a periodic annoyance.

I'm having the same problem, on two different machines -- Explorer++ crashes when I right-click on white space in the file pane. However, it only crashes when I'm actually in a directory that can contain files -- it doesn't crash when I'm in special locations like "Computer", "Control Panel", "Homegroup", or "Libraries" -- and it doesn't crash when I'm in any subdirectory of C:\Users\(username)\OneDrive. It crashes everywhere else.

I am running 1.3.5.531 (x64) and have narrowed down the problem to be the presence of OneDrive. ... When I uninstall OneDrive (and reboot) I can right-click without incident. ... Problem is I need both.

For the past few months, I had the same problem on a couple of Windows 7 computers that use Explorer++ in portable mode but I recently discovered a fix. The problem is definitely caused by OneDrive, but I need OneDrive so uninstalling it is not an option. I solved the problem by changing the compatibility settings of the Explorer++.exe file to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). This allows you to keep OneDrive and right-click in Explorer++'s white space. The only issue now is that a User Account Control security confirmation dialog appears when you run Explorer++. To me, this annoyance is better than having the program crash when I accidentally right-click the white space. You can probably get rid of the UAC message if you lower your security settings, but I wouldn't do that if I were you.

Except that the Windows XP compatibility mode doesn't exist anymore in Windows 10.
So it's bug

Agreed - it's a bug. I get it all the time. HOWEVER ... I got it months before upgrading to Win10 - and hadn't had OneDrive on my system (then).

Let me start by saying thanks to David an all the devs who've made contributions to this project.

I hope to see some awesome themes here in the future... As well as, added compatibility for Windows 10 Pro x64...

Now back to brass tax.

Does anyone have any news about a fix
or new details regarding this bug... ?

Would really like to see this one go away..

PS.. More Feature requests coming soon... Lol I'm joking.!..
