Further Development?

Post by mekd »

A File Manager is one of the most important programs on a pc. For heavy users a full featured File Manager it's an essential tool.
In order to keep relying on Explorer++ we need to know whether future developments and patches are on the horizon.

People here in the forum post all kind of requests and suggestions and I honestly don't understand why as the developer does not seem to offer any further support.

Please, do not understand me incorrectly, I would love to see Explorer++ supported and developed.

Good question ,maybe in the future we might see some new versions.

Maybe someone else could take it over and start working on it.
If it was open source maybe it would bring us some improvements.

Hi doomcake,

The project has been open source for about 5 years now ;) Source code is on GitHub.

As for further development, I've been kept pretty busy with other stuff. Also, I started work on the code in 2005, and my motivation to continue working on it isn't quite as high as it used to be! It's nice to see that people use the software and find some value in it.

I use tools and utilities myself that haven't been updated in a while, so I know that can be a bit frustrating. Especially when there's some sort of bug that you'd really like to be fixed! I do still read over the posts here, though I don't reply as much as I used to.

Anyway, I hope that provides at least some insight into the status of the project.

I've just come from CubicExplorer which has also stalled in development and, with TortoiseGIT, seems to consume a lot of my CPU. It has other issues as well and I'm definitely not excited about re-learning Pascal. But Explorer++ already ticks off most of my needs (I've been using it for a few days now and have only noticed a few things that I miss, mostly around shortcut keys and losing focus when creating/renaming files/folders). So I intend to set up a dev environment myself and get back into some C++. Can't promise to take on an active development though as I'm in a similar situation to David - busy with a million other things as well. We'll just see how things go...

Some further development is being done by a 3rd party. See this thread:
