Explorer++ seems to be a great alternative to Windows Explorer, and unlike many others it's actually less bloated than the default! Unfortunately, it still does have one feature I don't want or use - the tab functionality. Normally I would just ignore this, but it takes up space on my screen that I would rather use to see my files:
I think (hope?) that there may be others out there like me who dislike tabbed interfaces for their file browsing, and that we might benefit from an option to disable this feature. Perhaps when tabs are disabled we can reclaim this wasted screen space, and have the "Open in new tab" command in the folder context menus replaced with "Open in new window"?

Re: Option to disable tabs
In the release after next, it will be possible to hide the tab bar when there is only one tab open. Once I do that, I may add an option that allows tabs to be disabled all together.
Re: Option to disable tabs
I was just about to ask for the same thing. Great to hear it's already on-going. Explorer++ is really more intuitive then the build-in Windows 7 explorer (at lest to me). Great work!
Re: Option to disable tabs
The latest release allows you to hide the tabs, if there is only one.
For me, this feature request translates into "Add a configuration option to toggle whether CTRL+T opens a new tab or a new window." -- I can see how this could be useful, or rather the preferred experience for some. Especially since there is no replacement for the Win+E shortcut yet.

Would it be possible to add the option to completely disable tabs?David Erceg wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2009 8:11 pm In the release after next, it will be possible to hide the tab bar when there is only one tab open. Once I do that, I may add an option that allows tabs to be disabled all together.
I've always had tasks uncombined (and ungrouped) in the task bar, how it used to be in the good ol' days... Using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker, ExplorerPatcher, and now MS readded this feature they took away from us year ago! (Yay!?)... So the task bar has always been an actual TASK bar, not an application bar! So using Tabs has much less functionality, need. I like to be able to see and click on each task, to go directly to that folder in E++, or that different instance of Chrome, etc. etc. etc. Having tasks uncombined (and ungrouped) really, really is a plus for productivity, for those that need to actually get stuff done, things that require lots of apps, tasks, etc. open all at once.
I already have them hidden, but this doesn't stop them from being created by other things.
* If we use E++'s search feature and "Open file location" from the right-click menu, it opens it in a new tab... I'd like it to just open a new window if possible.
* If we use Everything (bloody amazing replacement to Windows Search!!!!!!!!!), it also opens a new tab if i double click on the search result's folder/path. Again, i'd like it to just open in a new window.
So this option to disable tabs altogether would be quite beneficial for my productivity.
